Hodgson to name young England squad for Germany and Chile friendlies

Roy Hodgson is expected to name an inexperienced England squad to play Germany and Chile in the forthcoming international friendlies, Sky Sports has reported.

The likes of Andros Townsend, Chris Smalling and Daniel Sturridge should all start against Chile, along with a number of new caps, with a more familiar line-up to play Germany days later, as Hodgson considers the new boys ahead of next year’s World Cup.

West Ham midfielder Ravel Morrison, Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling and West Brom forward Saido Berahino are all likely to be involved against the South Americans, as is Everton’s Ross Barkley. The midfielder will be part of the group that replaces Steven Gerrard, Jack Wilshere and Michael Carrick, who are all carrying injuries.

Fraser Forster could make his debut in goal with Joe Hart currently out of the Manchester City side having been a regular part of the England scene without making his international bow.

England qualified as Group H winners for the World Cup, avoiding a play-off. Their first opponents, Chile, will also compete in Brazil after finishing third in South American qualifying. Germany meanwhile finished top of Group C, qualifying ahead of Sweden.
