Brendan Rodgers takes his Liverpool side to Hull City on Sunday, with the hosts hoping to avoid a third successive defeat.
Hull’s problem so far this season has been scoring goals, with only nine scored in their opening 12 Premier League games. While their defensive record at the KC Stadium has been good, they missed a great opportunity to move seven points clear of the relegation zone and into the top half last time out as they lost to lowly Crystal Palace. And with a trip to Arsenal coming up on Wednesday, they could soon find themselves in a much weaker position in the table.
The visitors were involved in a classic Merseyside derby in their previous game as Daniel Sturridge scored again to rescue a point in 3-3 draw, a result which allowed Arsenal to open up a four point gap at the top of the Premier League. What will have concerned Rodgers the most, however, is his team’s defending, as Everton had enough clear-cut chances to put the game beyond doubt, with Simon Mignolet forced to make several vital saves.
The home side will be without midfielder Stephen Quinn and defender Paul McShane, who are both suffering from hamstring problems.
Jose Enrique, Iago Aspas and Sebastian Coates are all injured for Liverpool, who may hand a recall to central defender Mamadou Sakho.
