Everton captain Phil Jagielka believes Romelu Lukaku’s loan spell at Everton is helping Chelsea’s Premier League title bid this season, Sky
Lukaku has scored seven goals for the Toffees this season, and has already helped Roberto Martinez’s side stop Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur winning, which could help Chelsea in their quest to win the league. “It’s not a bad idea and a way at looking at things from Chelsea’s perspective,” Jagielka said.
“Unfortunately for Rom, with Chelsea mainly playing one up front, he had a big decision to make whether to stay there and play five or 10 games a season or do what he did when he went to West Brom last season,” the England international added.
“I think he made the right decision. That’s already been proven and we’re only a third the way through the season. Potentially it can work for Chelsea. He can’t play against Chelsea, but can against everyone else. If he helps us perform against the so-called big boys and rivals of Chelsea, then it will be a very good decision by them.”
Everton are currently seventh in the Premier League table, having drawn their previous three matches with Spurs, Crystal Palace and Liverpool.
Martinez’s side face Stoke at Goodison Park on Saturday, before travelling to Manchester United and Arsenal in the coming weeks.
Everton have lost just once this season in the top flight, going down to a 3-1 defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, and have drawn six of their 12 meetings this campaign. The Toffees beat Lukaku’s parent club Chelsea in September, but the striker is ineligible to play against the Blues this season.
