Krul among Premier League’s best goalkeepers, says Newcastle boss Pardew

Tim Krul has been hailed by his manager Alan Pardew as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, BBC Sport has reported, after the Dutchman’s display helped Newcastle to a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Krul made 14 saves in the win at White Hart Lane, more than any of his fellow goalkeepers have made in a single game this season. And Pardew feels that not only is Krul one of the top stoppers in the division, but he ranks him as the best of his countrymen – ahead of the likes of Michel Vorm and Maarten Stekelenburg, who play for Swansea City and Fulham respectively.

He has done a few good ones for us, Tim,” Pardew said after the win in north London. “I think he is the best Dutch goalkeeper for sure and I think he is one of the best in the league,” he added.

Krul meanwhile revealed which save he believed was his best. “The first save – Soldado’s header,” he said. “The sun was low and it kick-started from there,” he added, before crediting the back four for their role in the clean sheet. “Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa put his life on the line to clear one – it shows the commitment, from the back five to the strikers.

The result sees Newcastle into ninth in the table with 17 points, only three behind Spurs. It was only the third clean sheet the Magpies have kept in the league all season, having prevented Chelsea from scoring earlier in November, and shut out Fulham in late August.
