Lamela has featured sporadically so far for Spurs, making 10 appearances – six of them starts – and mostly in cup competitions. The 21-year-old has one goal to his name, in his last outing in the Europa League against Sheriff, and believes the twin approach of knuckling down in training and improving his language skills will help him develop at White Hart Lane.
“I’ll work hard in training and I want to improve my language, learn the English language, that’s one of my main targets,” Lamela said. “It’s essential to be able to communicate in English, to talk to my teammates and then in my personal life outside the football.”
The Independent suggests that with an injury to Christian Eriksen – who will miss six weeks with an ankle problem – Lamela will be called on more by Villas-Boas. Tottenham are currently seventh in the Premier League, five points behind leaders Arsenal, with only nine goals in their 11 games so far.
