Liverpool owner Henry to fly Suarez back to Merseyside

Luis Suarez will be given the use of John Henry’s private jet as the Liverpool owner attempts to bring the Uruguay forward back to Merseyside in time for the Premier League derby meeting with Everton, ESPN has reported.

Before Henry’s intervention, Suarez was facing a race against time to be ready to line up for the Reds at Goodison Park. Uruguay play Jordan in the second-leg of their World Cup qualification play-off at 11pm GMT on Tuesday, meaning he would have been likely to return to England on Friday – 24 hours before the derby.

But Henry will fly from Boston to Montevideo and deliver Suarez to Merseyside on Thursday, giving the striker an extra day to recover. Uruguay have a 5-0 first-leg lead, through goals from Maxi Pereira, Christian Stuani, Nicolas Lodeiro, Cristian Rodriguez and Edinson Cavani.

The derby game sees Liverpool, currently second in the table, make the short journey to Everton, who are sixth, three points adrift and unbeaten at home this season. The last time the Toffees were beaten at Goodison was December 2012, against Chelsea.
