Liverpool striker Suarez faces rush home for Merseyside derby

Luis Suarez will need to rush back to England ahead of Liverpool’s Merseyside derby as the Uruguay striker returns from their World Cup play-off, the Daily Mail has reported.

Uruguay’s play-off match will take place on Wednesday evening in Jordan, with Suarez facing a flight from Montevideo to London, which takes over 13 hours.

Brendan Rodgers will be hoping Suarez isn’t used in the play-off match, as Uruguay are already 5-0 up from the first-leg, but there is no guarantee Suarez will be rested as Oscar Tabarez will want to see his best XI ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

Despite the convincing 5-0 win, Suarez was criticized for diving in the game, but Liverpool manager Rodgers will be glad to see his striker return having scored eight goals already this season.

With Liverpool second in the Premier League, the Merseyside derby could see Everton go level on points with the Reds. Suarez is scheduled to arrive back in Liverpool late on Thursday night, but Liverpool’s match at lunchtime on Saturday may come slightly too early for the Uruguayan.
