Manchester City take on Viktoria Plzen at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening with their place in the Champions League knockout stages already secured.
Despite defeat to Bayern Munich in early November, two wins for Manuel Pellegrini’s side over CSKA Moscow has assured them of their progress at the third time of asking, having failed to make it past the group stage in the previous two seasons. Man City look set to finish second in Group D, with Bayern three points above them and needing to lose both of their remaining games to be overhauled.
Man City will be comfortable favourites to win here, and the Czech side will be wary of their recent home form. On Sunday, they produced yet another masterclass in thrashing Tottenham 6-0, taking their tally of home goals to an incredible 37 goals in nine games in all competitions, which is in complete contrast to their results on the road, as they have taken just four points from a possible 18 in the Premier League.
Plzen have lost each of their four group games and have scored only two goals, but they will not have given up hope of beating CSKA Moscow to third place and the Europa League. They are currently second in the Czech league, five points behind leaders Sparta Prague.
Joe Hart will be in goal for Manchester City, who are without David Silva, Stevan Jovetic and Vincent Kompany, although the captain has returned to training following a thigh injury.
