Man Utd boss Moyes considering move for unsettled Iniesta

David Moyes could launch an audacious January move for Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta, ESPN has reported, as the Manchester United manager seeks to capitalise on suggestions the Spain international is tired of life at Barcelona.

Iniesta is a graduate of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy and has spent his entire career with the Catalans. But his current contract expires in 2015 and the playmaker is thought to be open to a move elsewhere. The timing works out for Moyes, the report claims, as his midfield is looking underpowered, with Marouane Fellaini and Shinji Kagawa yet to convince following their moves to Old Trafford.

Moyes attempted to sign Iniesta’s club colleague and compatriot, Cesc Fabregas, upon replacing Sir Alex Ferguson in the United dugout, and is thought to have money to spend – as evidenced by the long-running pursuit of Fabregas and an attempt to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.

The 29-year-old Iniesta made his Barcelona debut in October 2002, in a Champions League game against Belgian side Bruges, and has gone on to play more than 450 times for the Catalans’ senior side. He also has almost 100 caps for Spain, winning two European Championships and the World Cup with La Roja.
