Barcelona star Lionel Messi has advised the club to renew their interest in Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, writes the Daily
Messi and Aguero have enjoyed success together at international level, particularly in the junior ranks as the pair helped Argentina win the U-20 World Cup in 2005 and the Olympic title in 2008. They now have 128 senior international caps between them.
Reports in Spain say that the Catalan giants were in negotiations to sign Aguero during the summer, before Brazil striker Neymar arrived at the Nou Camp. Enquiries were made, and a series of ‘very serious’ meetings with the former Atletico Madrid player’s advisors.
Man City however insist that the 25-year-old is not for sale, with Aguero considered a ‘vital’ part of their project, and they are even more unwilling to sell him to a possible Champions League rival. However, according to Spanish publication El 9 Esportiu, Aguero misses Spain and would like a change of scenery after over two years in England.
Aguero has begun the new season in excellent goalscoring form for Man City, netting 13 goals in 14 games in the Premier League and in Europe, form which earned him the Player of the Month award for October.
