James Milner praised the performance of Joe Hart as the goalkeeper returned to the Manchester City side for the 4-2 Champions League win over Viktoria Plzen, Sky
Milner believes Hart entered an accomplished performance despite conceding two goals on his first appearance for his club in a month. Hart was dropped by manager Manuel Pellegrini after an error against Chelsea gave Jose Mourinho’s side the three points when the teams met at Stamford Bridge.
Costel Pantilimon has worn the gloves since but Pellegrini restored Hart to the starting XI for the Champions League tie, with City already guaranteed a place in the next round. Milner believes Hart performed as his usual self, showing no signs of rustiness or malaise.
“Nothing’s changed for him,” Milner said. “He keeps going, keeps working hard. He’s pulling off great saves in games when he’s getting opportunities. He’s a great pro and he knows he’s just waiting for his chance and hopefully he can take it when it comes.
“We’re a squad and we’re going to need all of the squad to win anything,” Milner, a teammate of Hart’s with England, added. “It’s important everyone contributes when they play.”
The result leaves City in second place in Group D, three points behind leaders Bayern – who City play in Germany in the final round of games – but nine points clear of third place CSKA Moscow.
City recorded four different scorers in the win over Plzen, with Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri, Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko all on the score sheet.
