Monaco line up January move for Arsenal winger Walcott

Arsenal winger Theo Walcott is to be the subject of a January approach from Ligue 1 side Monaco, the Daily Mail has reported, with the principality club willing to pay around £34m to sign the England international.

Walcott has been out of action since the middle of September with an abdominal injury and it is believed manager Arsene Wenger would be unwilling to sell the former Southampton player, nor would Walcott be keen on leaving the Emirates Stadium.

But Monaco have deep pockets – as evidenced by their summer signings, Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez – and are pushing to win the title in France. They are currently level on points with champions and fellow nouveau riche club, Paris Saint-Germain.

Walcott moved to north London in January 2006, having played only 23 times in the Saints first team. He has since made 270 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 64 goals, with one goal in seven club games so far this season. The 24-year-old’s only goal of the campaign came in his last outing, netting in the 2-1 win over Marseille in the Champions League.
