Southampton pair Jay Rodriguez and Adam Lallana have been rewarded for their part in the Saints’ fine Premier League form with a place in Roy Hodgson’s England squad, the
Lallana and Rodriguez are joined in the party to play Chile and Germany at Wembley by club colleague Rickie Lambert, who made his international bow earlier in the season in the friendly win over Scotland. Lambert made a scoring start to his England career and has featured under Hodgson regularly since.
It is Rodriguez’s first summons to the senior side, having played once for the England Under-21s. Lallana was part of the squad to play Ukraine in 2012 but didn’t get his debut, but has featured at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 level.
Lallana is a graduate of Southampton’s prolific youth academy while Rodriguez was signed from Championship side Burnley at the start of the 2012-13 season. The 24-year-old has scored three times in 10 league appearances thus far with Southampton climbing to sixth place.
Also in the group is Jordan Henderson, the Liverpool midfielder with five senior caps, the last of which came at Euro 2012. A former England Under-21 captain, Henderson has featured in every club league game so far this season. Henderson is joined by Liverpool teammate Glen Johnson, who missed the last squad through injury.
