As they look to end a run of six Premier League games without a win, Stoke City take on the division’s surprise package, Southampton.
Stoke were unlucky to lose after producing a much improved display at Manchester United, with their failure to convert all of the chances they created in first half eventually proving crucial. It meant a fourth defeat in five league outings as only goal difference separates them from the bottom three, and they made hard work of seeing off 10-man Birmingham City in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.
That the Potters were in extra time during the week may hand the initiative to Southampton, who continued their amazing start by defeating Fulham last time out, in a game that they controlled from start to finish, and one which clearly illustrated the team’s work rate under Mauricio Pochettino. Now, it just remains to be seen how long Southampton can sustain their current form.
Stoke boss Mark Hughes has no new injury problems to contend with, but there should be changes from the game at St. Andrews.
For the Saints, who are aiming to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches in all competitions, Steven Davis and Pablo Osvaldo, who both missed the win over Fulham, face late fitness tests.
