Strachan tempting Caulker to choose Scotland over England

Gordon Strachan is attempting to persuade Steven Caulker to play for Scotland rather than England, as he was left out of Roy Hodgson’s latest squad, the Daily Mail has reported.

The Cardiff defender qualifies to represent Scotland through his grandmother, and with Hodgson continuing to overlook him, Caulker may be tempted to turn his back on England.

Hodgson announced he would use fringe players in the upcoming friendlies against Chile and Germany at Wembley, but decided against picking Caulker in the latest squad despite Caulker scoring on his England debut in 2012.

The former Tottenham defender has made just one friendly appearance for the senior side having previously represented the Under-21s, but has not featured since the memorable debut against Sweden last year.

Caulker has been in good form for Cardiff this season, and represented Team GB during the Olympics last year. He has stated before that it would be his ‘dream’ to play for England, having left Spurs for the newly-promoted Welsh club in the summer.
