The Premier League has given us an excellent looking set of the fixtures for the opening weekend in November, and here are five players to keep an eye on in particular:
In the absence of Mathieu Flamini, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has a big to fill as Arsenal take on a vibrant Liverpool side. Arteta is likely to play in the holding role and it will be up to him to protect the back four from the threat of Daniel Sturridge, Luis Suarez, and the returning Philippe Coutinho. The Spaniard may also make a key contribution in attack, due to his fine passing ability.
Along with several of his teammates, Berbatov has underperformed this season. However, he can be tough to predict, and his contribution will be vital if Fulham are to come away with anything against his former club, Manchester United. The Bulgarian striker undoubtedly has the quality to pose problems to a Red Devils defence that has often looked vulnerable this season.
There will be lots of attention on Luis Suarez as he takes to the field at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday as he faces the side that made two attempts to sign him during the summer. After scoring a hat-trick last time out, he will severely test the Arsenal defence, who will be wary of Uruguayan, with Suarez perhaps looking to punish the Gunners for their failure to bring him to North London.
The England international defender’s decision to join Cardiff City over the summer having previously spent a season on loan at arch rivals Swansea City surprised many. On Sunday, he faces an interesting reception from the Swansea supporters in the Premier League’s first ever Welsh derby. He will also be severely tested by the likes of Wilfried Bony and Miguel Michu, so it promises to be an eventful afternoon for Caulker.
After being rewarded for excellent display against Manchester City with a gift of a winning goal, Torres is now beginning to look something like the striker he was during his time at Liverpool. His confidence seems to be returning, and as a result, things look ominous for Newcastle United defence which is depleted by injuries, ensuring that it could be another productive afternoon for the Spaniard.
