Wenger denies rift between Arsenal and England over Wilshere fitness

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has dismissed reports of a row between the Gunners and the England set-up over the fitness of midfielder Jack Wilshere, ESPN has reported, with Wenger clarifying that Wilshere did not return from international duty with an injury.

It had been claimed in press reports that Wilshere has been struggling with an ankle problem and Wenger had asked his England counterpart Roy Hodgson to only field the player in one of the two friendlies. Wilshere however featured in both the defeat to Chile and the defeat to Germany, starting against the South Americans and coming on as a second-half substitute against Joachim Low’s side.

First of all Jack is not injured, that was not the right information,” Wenger told the official Arsenal website. “Secondly, I have no problem with the FA.

They respected completely what they told me and it was [for Wilshere] to play in one game and be on the bench in the other,” Wenger added. “They did that very well. So there is no misunderstanding there.

Wilshere has a history of lengthy injury absences, missing the entire 2011-12 season, but in this campaign has made 23 appearances for club and country, scoring twice.
