Manchester City will be hoping to be more competitive against the European champions than they were in October, when they travel to the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.
This game does not mean much in the context of the group, with both sides already guaranteed of their progress to the knockout stages. Only a win by three goals will see Man City top the group, which is an unlikely target. First and foremost, Manuel Pellegrini will simply be hoping not to be outclassed as they were at the Etihad Stadium, where Bayern won at a canter, even if they were aided by two mistakes from Joe Hart.
Man City’s Premier League form in recent weeks has been excellent with Sergio Aguero scoring plenty of goals, but the frustration for Pellegrini will be that they are only fourth, six points behind leaders Arsenal. This is mainly due to their poor away record, and they dropped points on the road once again on Saturday, this time against Southampton in a 1-1 draw.
David Silva could return after a month out, but Yaya Toure is suspended, while Matija Nastasic and Gael Clichy are both injured, keeping them out against the side four points clear at the top of the German Bundesliga, with an unbeaten record so far.
