Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that Joe Hart will keep his place in goal for Boxing Day’s game against Liverpool, after making his first Premier League start since October 27 at Fulham on Saturday, writes BBC
After a series of errors over the opening weeks of the season, Hart was dropped in favour of Costel Pantilimon for Premier League fixtures. He was restored to the team on Saturday at Craven Cottage, and despite conceding twice, had a solid game as Man City won 4-2.
After the game, Pellegrini said: “He deserved to play and he also deserves to continue. In every match, we could play with 11 different starters, but at the moment Joe will continue to play. Joe did well and it was not easy. The pitch was very quick and there was a lot of wind but he had a very good game.”
On the victory, which saw Man City recover from a Fulham fightback to take the three points, Pellegrini added: “Fulham are a tough team at home and they defend very well. We started well but, after slipping back, Navas and Milner made huge contributions.
“Their second goal (a Vincent Kompany own goal) was very bad luck and it would be impossible to repeat. But these things happen and the reaction of the team was very important.”
