Liverpool now look unlikely to be able to bring former midfielder Xabi Alonso back to Anfield after reports in Spain suggested that he is ready to sign a new contract with Real Madrid, according to the Metro.
Alonso
He left for the Bernabeu after feeling he was no longer wanted on Merseyside, and he has since helped Real Madrid win the La Liga title in 2012. However, he was expected to quit the club at the end of the current campaign with Liverpool among the interested parties, but now reports suggest that the 32-year-old has asked his agent to negotiate a new deal with the Spanish giants.
Liverpool’s Premier League rivals, Chelsea and Manchester United, have also been linked with a move for Alonso either in January, or next summer.
