Cardiff City visit Anfield for Saturday’s early kick-off, and their first objective will be to cancel out the threat of Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, who is looking to lead his side to a fourth win in a row.
That, however, is easier said than done as the Uruguayan’s took his amazing goals tally to 17 from just 11 Premier League games with two in the emphatic 5-0 win over Tottenham last time out. It was a magnificent display from Liverpool all round at White Hart Lane, with Jordan Henderson excelling in the midfield, meaning the absence of Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge almost went unnoticed.
The Welsh club picked up a vital three points against West Bromwich Albion thanks to Peter Whittingham’s fine header, but it has been the club’s reaction to manager Malky Mackay’s post-match comments which has made the headlines this week. The Scot has been forced to deny suggestions that he may resign after owner Vincent Tan refused to make any money available for the January transfer window.
Liverpool are still without Gerrard and Sturridge until the New Year, as well as left-back Jose Enrique and central defender Sebastian Coates.
The visitors are waiting on the fitness of former Liverpool forward Craig Bellamy, who is Mackay’s only injury concern.
