Liverpool will be looking to bounce back from Sunday’s shock defeat at Hull City by seeing off Norwich City at Anfield.
Despite the loss of Daniel Sturridge, and the slight injury which kept Philippe Coutinho on the bench for much of the game, Liverpool’s display at the KC Stadium was hugely disappointing, as the Reds’ lack of depth was totally exposed.
Going forward, the news that Sturridge’s injury will keep him out until the New Year is a major blow to Liverpool’s hopes of finishing in the top four this season, as the strike partnership between he and Luis Suarez had looked the best in the Premier League. Another concern for Brendan Rodgers will be the defence, after the concession of six goals in the last two games.
Norwich have now won two of their last three games, both against sides below them in the Premier League table, which has seen them move four points clear of the bottom three as well as ease the pressure on manager Chris Hughton, who had been coming under some pressure. They will, however, be aware that they have conceded 13 goals in their last three meetings with Liverpool, seven of which have been scored by Suarez.
Aside from Sturridge, Sebastian Coates and Jose Enrique are both out for Liverpool, who could welcome back Iago Aspas from injury. Coutinho should return to the starting line-up.
Norwich continue to be without wingers Elliott Bennett, Anthony Pilkington and Robert Snodgrass, while Ricky van Wolfswinkel is unlikely to return before the game against Swansea City on December 15.
