Man Utd boss Moyes rubbishes van Persie exit rumours

Manchester United manager David Moyes has dismissed speculation that striker Robin van Persie has asked to leave the club, the Daily Express has reported.

The claims were made by football pundit Mark Lawrenson on an Irish radio programme. He said: “There’s all sorts of rumours coming out of the training ground at the moment.

‘One or two of the press boys that I know that cover Manchester United, they’re even saying that the big whisper is Van Persie might have asked for a transfer on Tuesday. So if that happens, what a mess that’s going to be for David Moyes.”

However, Moyes, under pressure due to Man Utd’s poor season so far in the Premier League, responded by saying: “That is absolute nonsense. I don’t know what harder or tougher word I could say but that’s as good as I’ve got.”

The 30-year-old van Persie, who joined the club in the summer of 2012 and was top scorer in last season’s title winning campaign, could not prevent Man Utd losing at home to Newcastle United on Saturday, despite playing full 90 minutes after recovering from a groin injury.
