No van Persie return date, says Man Utd boss Moyes

Manchester United manager David Moyes has admitted that no return date has been set for injured striker Robin van Persie, although he insists it is ‘nothing desperately serious’, Sky Sports has reported.

The Dutchman has not played in any of Man Utd’s four games since the international break due to a groin problem, with his last appearance coming against leaders Arsenal at Old Trafford on November 10, where he scored the only goal.

Wayne Rooney will serve a one-match ban on Saturday, having picked up five yellow cards this season, leaving Moyes without his first-choice striking duo for the game against Newcastle United, so Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez are in line to deputise.

And Moyes, whose side lost at home to Everton on Wednesday, a result which leaves them 12 points off the pace in the Premier League, said of the injury: “I don’t know (when he will return). We’ve been trying to get him back for a few weeks. But he is not ready yet. It’s his groin. It’s a sore groin injury and nothing desperately serious.”
