The final round of Premier League fixtures before the festive period looks set to be a thrilling one, and these five players in particular could play a major role in the weekend’s events:
After almost three months out with injury, Walcott is back to torment Premier League defences with his devastating pace. On Saturday, he comes up against a Manchester City side who have been in imperious form at home, but he has the quality to make a telling contribution as he looks to help Arsenal strengthen their already very healthy position at the summit.
The Aston Villa striker really announced himself last season when he scored twice against Manchester United. Those goals eventually counted for nothing, but the pace of the Austrian, and his determination could give the champions a tough time when the two clubs meet again at Villa Park on Saturday.
The Frenchman has taken time to show his best form for Manchester City since joining from Arsenal in 2011, but this season he has improved significantly, and could do some damage against his former employers on Saturday with his playmaking ability in what is a top quality Man City attack.
Tiote was Newcastle’s star performer as the Magpies pulled off a famous victory at Manchester United last time out, but he will not be alongside regular midfield partner Yohan Cabaye on Saturday, as the Frenchman is suspended for the game against Southampton. And with the midfield the Saints have, Tiote is certain to be in a battle.
A Premier League ever-present this season, Henderson’s displays have been consistently strong this season. However, for the next few weeks, the ex-Sunderland midfielder will carry some extra responsibility, after captain Steven Gerrard was ruled out for several weeks. Maybe it will make Henderson a better player, but it is a challenging run of fixtures, beginning on Sunday at Tottenham.
