This weekend marks the beginning of the busiest time of the season, and here are the five players to look out for in the first of four rounds of Premier League fixtures in just 12 days.
With Sergio Aguero out of action until the New Year, this is the chance for Dzeko to prove his worth to Manchester City. He has played well thus season, but as a result of the hugely successful partnership between Aguero and Alvaro Negredo, has found himself on the bench. The Bosnian scored twice at Leicester in midweek, and scored the winner at Fulham last season. He could make another telling contribution at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
The Scot has been one of the more impressive goalkeepers in the Premier League this season, helping newly-promoted Cardiff City stay clear of the drop zone. However, he faces arguably his biggest test so far on Saturday as he attempts to keep out a rampant Liverpool side who have bagged 14 goals in their last three games. They may just be unstoppable…
Mesut Ozil < Arsenal’s record signing has occasionally set the Premier League alight with his wonderful passing ability, but has not been among the most consistent performers thus far. The Gunners take on Chelsea in a vital game on Monday evening, and after a disappointing afternoon at Manchester City, a return to form here will be a timely boost to Arsene Wenger. Gary Hooper
Three and-a-half months into his first ever Premier League season, Hooper is beginning to show why he has been so prolific over the past four seasons for Scunthorpe United and Celtic. He has now scored in two consecutive games, and will fancy his chances of extending that run away to bottom club Sunderland.
Against Aston Villa on Sunday, Manchester United had something which they had been crucially without for much of the season – width. Valencia was central to their success against Paul Lambert’s team, and was again effective against Stoke City in the Capital One Cup. Now the champions must repeat that at Old Trafford, and they will once again be looking to Valencia to provide it.
