Tim Sherwood will be hoping for his first home win in charge of Tottenham when Stoke City come to North London on Sunday.
On Boxing Day, they were frustrated by a determined West Bromwich Albion in a game where they were reduced mainly to long range efforts while the visitors created the better chances despite their inferiority in terms of possession. Even if results do not go his way, Sherwood shows little sign of adopting a more cautious approach, and they Stoke will be expecting them to continue to show lots of attacking intent.
Stoke enter this game having felt a strong sense of injustice throughout their heavy defeat at Newcastle United. They started the game well, going ahead through Oussama Assaidi, but then they saw all the decisions go against them, and they allowed themselves to lose their discipline completely on the pitch and on the touchline, as Mark Hughes was sent to the stands after a tirade aimed at the officials.
While Tottenham midfielder Paulinho returns from suspension, Kyle Walker will be serving a one-match ban of his own. Spurs also have plenty of injury problems as Aaron Lennon, Jermain Defoe and Mousa Dembele are all doubtful.
Glenn Whelan and Marc Wilson both serve one-match bans after their red cards on Tyneside, while Stoke are also without injured goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.
