West Ham United meet Arsenal on Boxing Day in a fixture which has delivered plenty of action in the Premier League over the years:
West Ham began last season in strong form at Upton Park, and looked like they could continue their run when Mohamed Diame curled them in front midway through the first half. However, Arsenal were excellent on the day, and Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla scored after half time to give them a 3-1 win, after Olivier Giroud had scored his first Premier League goal to bring the game level.
Most Emphatic Victory
The Gunners arrived in East London as defending champions in February 1999, and they delivered a performance which explained why as they coated to a 4-0 win. Dennis Bergkamp and Marc Overmars both netted shortly before half time, and those goals were added to in the second half by Nicolas Anelka and Ray Parlour.
The hosts looked down and out when Arsenal led 2-0 at half time in October 2009 thanks to goals by William Gallas and Robin van Persie. They held their two goal cushion until 16 minutes from time when Carlton Cole found the net, and six minutes later Alessandro Diamanti scored from the penalty spot to snatch an unlikely point for the struggling Hammers.
Most Shocking Moment
Marlon Harewood scored late on to hand West Ham a rare home victory over Arsenal in November 2006, but it was the aftermath of that strike which grabbed the headlines as Arsene Wenger took exception to counterpart Alan Pardew’s exuberant celebrations and the two managers clashed on the touchline.
