Aguero close to Man City comeback

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is expected to make his return to football in the next week, according to ESPN.

The 25-year-old has netted 19 goals so far this season but has missed the last seven games with a calf injury picked up in the 6-3 win over Arsenal in December.

The Argentinean has now resumed full training with the team and manager Manuel Pelligrini said: “Aguero continues working and maybe next week he can be fit.”

Despite the positive view of the manager, Aguero will not make it back in time for City’s trip to Newcastle on Sunday but is expected to return to the Etihad Stadium against Cardiff on January 18.

The Blues have won six of their last seven matches without their top scorer, only failing to win in the FA Cup third round match against Blackburn.

Due to this run, Pellegrini was named Manager of the Month for December after gaining 19 points from a possible 21.

The Manchester side will face Rovers in a FA Cup replay three days prior to Aguero’s expected return.
