Arsenal have set their sights on capturing Roma striker Mattia Destro, reports The
With the Gunners continuing their quest to bring in a new striker during the current transfer window to ease the pressure on Olivier Giroud – their only recognised and fit striker at present – it is believed that manager Arsene Wenger has set his sights on Destro as an alternative to widely-reported targets Jackson Martinez and Alvaro Morata.
Destro has not exactly found first team opportunities a regular opportunity this season, and has made just four appearances for the Italians this season – two of them as a substitute. Roma are not keen on letting the 22-year-old leave the club, but with Francesco Tottie and former Gunners star Gervinho both sitting ahead of Destro in the Stadio Olimpico pecking order.
This could mean that Destro also fits’ Wengers previously-reported criteria of bringing in short-term signings, as he could potentially be available on a transfer if Arsenal play their cards right.
A permanent deal is certainly a possibility should such a move prove beneficial to all parties concerned, or indeed if a loan move comes to fruition and proves successful the north Londoners may be tempted to part with some cash to keep the former Genoa striker at the Emirates Stadium beyond the current season.
