Liverpool have denied they are lining up a move for Milan’s former Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong, ESPN
It had been suggested Brendan Rodgers would move for the Netherlands international to cover for the absence of Lucas Leiva, who suffered an injury against Aston Villa on Saturday.
But ESPN say sources have denied any move for de Jong is in the offing. The 29-year-old move to Italy in the summer of 2012, having spent three-and-a-half years at City.
Milan are currently 11th in the Serie A table, some 30 points behind league leaders Juventus. Coach Max Allegri was recently sacked, with de Jong’s former Holland teammate Clarence Seedorf appointed to his first Coaching job in his place.
De Jong made 137 appearances for City, scoring twice, and was part of the team that won the FA Cup in 2011 and the league title in 2012.
He has also represented Ajax, his first club, and Bundesliga outfit Hamburg, as well as winning more than 60 caps for his country.
