Liverpool will be going for a ninth successive home win when they take on out-of-form Aston Villa in Saturday’s late kick-off.
Brendan Rodgers’ team maintained their place in the top four of the Premier League with a hard-fought but highly entertaining win at Stoke City. Although their defending left a lot to be desired as Stoke caused them problems throughout, Liverpool were again excellent going forward with Luis Suarez adding two more goals to his tally for the season, and Daniel Sturridge scoring on his return to action.
On Monday evening, two goals in as many minutes were Aston Villa’s undoing as they came unstuck against leaders Arsenal. Undoubtedly the biggest positive to come from that game will have been that it marked the end of Christian Benteke’s goal drought, with the Belgian netting for the first time since September, so he will be hoping to provide a reminder of what he is capable of here.
Sturridge is in line to make his first Liverpool start since November, but Jose Enrique and Daniel Agger are still out, while Mamadou Sakho will be assessed.
Visitors Villa are without Nathan Baker, who was carried off against Arsenal. Libor Kozak and Jores Okore are both long-term absentees.
