The second Merseyside derby of the season takes place on Tuesday evening, and if it is anything like the meeting in November, it promises to be another thriller.
Liverpool came through their FA Cup test at Bournemouth on Saturday, though somewhat unconvincingly. That win came after a disappointing performance against Aston Villa, which saw them lose ground on the top three, and kept Everton breathing down their necks. However, the biggest problem facing manager Brendan Rodgers at present is the extent of the Anfield injury list, with several key players unavailable.
The visitors, who have far from a fully-fit squad themselves, may feel that they should be coming into this game sitting above Liverpool in the Premier League, having failed to win at West Bromwich Albion. Roberto Martinez has impressed almost everybody since taking charge of the Toffees, and he will undoubtedly fancy his chances of winning away to the Reds, something that David Moyes never managed to achieve.
Daniel Agger, Jose Enrique, Glen Johnson and Lucas Leiva are all out for Liverpool, who also have severe doubts over Joe Allen and Mamadou Sakho.
Everton are unable to give a debut to Lacina Traore, as the Ivorian is injured, while Bryan Oviedo has joined Arouna Kone and Darron Gibson on the long-term injury list. Several other players will be assessed ahead of the game.
