Man City’s hopes of signing Porto duo Eliaquim Mangala and Fernando look to be in vein, as the pair will not be moving to the Premier League leaders before the transfer window closes, according to BBC
The Citizens had hoped to land the players on deadline day, but now look set to do no more business before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm.
It is believed that the deal to take Mangala and Fernando to the Etihad Stadium could be resurrected in the summer, with Porto thought to be asking well in excess of £40m for the pair.
Mangala has been heavily tipped to replace Rio Ferdinand at Man United in recent months, while Fernando had looked to be a target for Premier League rivals Everton, but the deal fell through on deadline day last summer. The 26-year-old is also believed to be attracting interest from AC Milan.
With City’s doors believed to be closed on transfer business for the January window, Joleon Lescott now looks set to stay at the club despite reported interest from West Ham, who wanted to sign the former Everton defender on loan.
