Man City waiting for news on Nasri

Manchester City are waiting to hear the extent of any injury suffered by Samir Nasri, ESPN has reported, after the midfielder was stretchered off against Newcastle United.

City won the game 2-0 but the victory was marred by the suspected injury to the playmaker, suffered after a rash challenge by Magpies defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa. Yanga-Mbiwa was booked for the foul but Manuel Pellegrini confirmed after the match that Nasri may have suffered a serious injury.

“Maybe it’s medial ligaments. We’ll see [on Monday] what happens with him,” Pellegrini said after the match. “It should have been a red card for the tackle by Yanga-Mbiwa on Nasri. A direct red card – we didn’t have any extra help from the referee today,” the Chilean added.

Pellegrini was joined in his condemnation of referee Mike Jones by Alan Pardew, who was incensed with the officials for disallowing a Cheick Tiote goal that would have tied the scores at 1-1.

As it was, Edin Dzeko’s opening goal was added to by a late Alvaro Negredo effort to give City the three points and move Pellegrini’s side to the top of the table, above Chelsea, who went into first place by beating Hull on Saturday, and Arsenal, who meet Aston Villa on Monday evening.
