Man Utd boss Moyes stresses importance of Capital One Cup

Manchester United manager David Moyes insists he is not taking Tuesday’s Capital One Cup tie with Sunderland lightly, Sky Sports has reported.

The Premier League champions meet the division’s bottom side in the first-leg of the competition’s semi-final, just days after United were knocked out of the FA Cup by Swansea City, going down to a 2-1 defeat at home. United travel to Sunderland in the first part of the tie and Moyes is adamant the competition is one he and his players want to win.

Our approach to Sunderland had to have the FA Cup game in mind because it was two matches in 48 hours,” Moyes said, adding: “It has always been vital for us to win every game and get to every final if we can.

There is a job in front of us in every competition we enter,” he continued. “We have got to overcome Sunderland in a two-game match to reach the final. It will be a difficult game and difficult to judge exactly how the first leg will go. But we will try to get ourselves to the cup final if we can.

The sides met in league competition at the Stadium of Light earlier in the season, United winning 2-1 thanks to an Adnan Januzaj brace, with Craig Gardner on the score sheet for the home side, who were then under the temporary management of Kevin Ball after sacking Paolo Di Canio.
