Mancini: Man City success down to me

Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini believes he deserves credit for the good form shown by his old club this season, Sky Sports has reported.

Mancini left the Etihad Stadium in summer 2013 having won the title in 2012 and the FA Cup in 2011. The Italian was however replaced by Manuel Pellegrini after City ended last season without a trophy, losing the FA Cup final to Wigan.

Insisting he was happy for City, who reached the Capital One Cup final on Tuesday, Mancini pointed out that he bought many of the players excelling for Pellegrini.

“I’m happy that now Manchester City is one of the best teams in England because I built this team,” Mancini said.

“I am very happy with all these players,” the current Galatasaray boss added. “I am happy with my job and I love Manchester City supporters. I had a fantastic experience.

“The players that score the goals are players that I bought – (Sergio) Aguero, (Edin) Dzeko, Yaya (Toure), (David) Silva, (Samir) Nasri.

“I think Pellegrini is doing a good job but what Manchester City is doing now we did three years ago. It’s the same.”
