Hull City striker Shane Long is set to make his debut for the club against Crystal Palace on Tuesday, according to Sky
Tigers boss Steve Bruce convinced the player to join Hull in September last year but after a deadline day move fell through they have both had to wait five months to put their plans into motion.
“It was a strange situation to be in but these things happen in football,” said Long.
“I tried to be as professional as I could be. I was a West Brom player and I think anyone there would tell you I gave my all on the pitch and trained hard every day. But it was hard to try and get it out of your head.”
The Republic of Ireland international was unable to leave the Baggies after a last gasp move for Romelu Lukaku fell through but the £6.5 million deal has now been completed.
Despite the move previously failing Steve Bruce planted an idea in the 21-year-old’s mind of his vision for the club and he has since taken the first step to making that happen.
“After meeting the manager (Bruce), he left a good impression on me and I wanted to play for him.
“He was just talking to me about the club, the players coming in and how I was going to be a part of it,” added Long.
