Newcastle are hoping to move quickly to replace the departing Yaho Cabaye before Friday’s transfer deadline, and have made a bid for Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier, according to BBC
No transfer fee has been mooted publically yet, but the Toon Army are hoping to add Grenier to their ranks alongside Luuk de Jong, who undergoes a medical at St. James’ Park on Wednesday.
Lyon boss Remi Garde had spoken publically about his reluctance to see Grenier depart the club this month, but the 23-year-old could yet complete a move to the north east as the Magpies look to reinvest some of the reported £20m they will receive from the Cabaye sale.
Grenier, who has also been linked with Arsenal in recent months, has represented his native France at every level since U-16, and has won three senior caps for his homeland.
If the deal can be completed, Grenier could make his debut for the Toon in the Tyne-Wear derby at St. James’ Park on Saturday, or when they visit Chelsea on 8th February.
