Premier League strugglers West Ham United will be preparing for a stern test on Sunday, when they take on Championship promotion hopefuls Nottingham Forest.
A run of seven points from a possible nine has reinvigorated Forest’s promotion push, after some poor results saw them fall some way adrift of the top four. As it stands, Billy Davies’ men lie fifth, seven points behind second placed Burnley with 22 games still to be played. They undoubtedly have a talented squad, who are determined for promotion, and they will surely give a depleted West Ham many problems.
Hammers boss Sam Allardyce must think that the world is against him at present. Deprived of all his central defenders and without a prolific striker, he now has to contend with Kevin Nolan’s suspension after his senseless sending off at Fulham, which ultimately cost his team in a vital game between two relegation rivals. Allardyce does not often take cup competitions seriously, and it could be the same here with the Premier League their main priority.
Darius Henderson returns from suspension for the home side following his dismissal at Birmingham City before Christmas. Nathaniel Chalobah, on loan from Chelsea, is unable to play.
Nolan begins his four-match ban, with West Ham already without Andy Carroll, Winston Reid, Ricatdo Vaz Te and James Tomkins, while James Collins and Ravel Morrison are both doubtful.
