Paris Saint-Germain could be set to unveil Newcastle star Yohan Cabaye at a press conference on Wednesday evening, according to Sky
The French international has already passed a medical at Parc des Princes, and is set to put the finishing touches on his protracted £20m transfer on Wednesday afternoon.
The deal would see the 28-year-old return to Ligue 1, where he played for Lille before his £4.3m transfer to St. James’ Park in 2011. He cuts a popular figure at the Toon, and the loss of such an influential player will surely hit Alan Pardew’s men hard – Cabaye has made 79 appearances for the club, scoring 17 goals.
Cabaye made his France debut in 2010, and has gone on to earn 26 caps wearing the blue shirt, scoring twice. He was a Lille player for his entire professional contract, having made his debut in 2004, before moving to the Premier League.
The French outfit, meanwhile, have ruled out making a move for Barcelona star Lionel Messi.
Speaking to L’Equipe, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: “If we didn’t have any limit, we’d bring in Messi. If Messi isn’t coming to Paris, it’s because some limits really exist.”
