Sunderland have completed the deadline day signing of Liam Bridcutt from Brighton, reports Sky
Bridcutt has signed a three-and-a-half year contract at the Stadium of Light and arrives for an undisclosed fee, though this is suggested to be in the £3m area.
Bridcutt played under Black Cats boss Gus Poyet during the Uruguayan’s time in charge at Brighton, Poyet being the man to take Bridcutt to the Falmer Stadium in the first place in 2010.
He made over 150 appearances for the Seagulls, and made his international debut with Scotland in March 2013 against Serbia in what remains his only senior cap to date.
Bridcutt is the fifth January signing for Sunderland, following Marcos Alonso and Argentinians Oscar Ustari, Santiago Vergini and Ignacio Scocco to Wearside.
He began his career with Chelsea in 2007 before moving to Brighton three years later. During his time at Stamford Bridge he spent spells on loan at Yeovil, Watford and Stockport.
Elsewhere at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland have let Mo Diakite leave for Fiorentina on loan until the end of the season.
