Wayne Rooney has come to terms with Manchester United over a new long-term contract, talkSPORT
The striker’s previous deal expired in 2015 and interest from Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho had led to speculation Rooney’s time at Old Trafford was coming to an end. But Rooney is now said to have signed a fresh contract which will expire in 2019.
No weekly wage is mentioned in the report but Rooney will remain the highest-paid player at the club following the arrival of Juan Mata from Chelsea earlier in January. The agreement could be confirmed prior to United’s home game with Cardiff on Tuesday.
Rooney has been at United since leaving Everton in 2004. Should he see out the deal until 2019 he will have spent 15 years at the club, and by the time the new contract ends Rooney will be nearly 34.
Rooney has made 425 appearances for United in his near-decade at the club, scoring 209 goals. His tally includes 24 games this season, with 11 goals coming so far.
