Wayne Rooney looks set to talk to Man United about a new contract at Old Trafford which could make him the highest paid Premier League player in history, according to The
The former Everton striker had looked set to leave Old Trafford in the summer, but has enjoyed a good personal season under the tutelage of David Moyes once again – and could now be set to sign a deal which would expire when the England star turns 32.
The contract would be worth £300k per week, which would surpass wage levels the Premier League has seen before. The striker signed a £250k-per-week deal back in 2010, but had looked set to leave just last summer after a public falling out with then-manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
It is understood that United will open talks with Rooney as soon as their capture of Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata is concluded, which should be done in time to see the Spanish international making his United debut when the club host Cardiff on Tuesday evening.
