Solskjaer to be given huge transfer kitty by Cardiff

Cardiff City will attempt to convince Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to become the club’s new manager by providing a £25m transfer kitty to help the club retain their place in the Premier League, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

It is thought the former Manchester United forward will accept the offer to replace Malky Mackay in the Welsh capital and could be officially appointed on Thursday, with designs on spending the money made available as soon as possible. Solskjaer is currently manager of Molde but was flown to England to watch Cardiff’s 2-0 defeat against Arsenal on New Year’s Day in the company of Vincent Tan, the club’s owner.

Talks between Solskjaer, Tan and the Cardiff hierarchy are understood to have continued on Wednesday evening, with a rolling contract expected to be agreed between the parties. Among the targets said to be on Cardiff’s shopping list are Blackpool winger Tom Ince, Heerenveen forward Alfred Finnbogason and Molde midfielder Mats Moller Daehli.

Cardiff sacked Mackay after a 3-0 home defeat to Southampton following a period of unrest at the club in which Tan ordered Mackay to resign or be dismissed, then relented following a fan outcry, only to lower the axe days later after the reverse against the Saints. Cardiff are currently 17th in the table, a point outside the relegation zone.
