Swansea boss Laudrup rules out Ki return despite injury crisis

Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup has said that he is unlikely to recall midfielder Ki Sung-yueng from his loan spell at Sunderland despite the current injury crisis for the Welsh club, Sky Sports has reported.

Jose Canas was forced off during Saturday’s 2-0 reverse at Manchester United, and he becomes the ninth key player to join the Swansea injury list, which includes Miguel Michu, Jonathan de Guzman, Nathan Dyer, Roland Lamah, Michel Vorm and Pablo Hernandez.

Ki, who was brought to the Liberty Stadium from Celtic in the summer of 2012, was allowed to move to Sunderland on a season-long loan at the end of August, and has impressed for Gustavo Poyet’s team, scoring against Chelsea in the Capital One Cup, and against Everton and Fulham in the Premier League.

Although he has several players on the sidelines, Laudrup is not keen on the idea of bringing back the South Korean. He said: “There is a possibility to bring him back but I don’t think it is a good idea.

“Ki feels comfortable where he is now. If we take him back, he would not play every game. Mentally, it would be very bad for him.”
