West Ham United will be looking for just their third home win in the league this season when Newcastle United make the long journey to East London.
The win at Cardiff City came at the perfect time for the Hammers, after serious questions were raised as a result of two heavy, and embarrassingly limp cup defeats. But they hit back with a performance full of effort, energy and endeavour to move out of the Premier League’s bottom three at the Welsh club’s expense. That game also saw the return of Andy Carroll, who make his first start of the season against his former club.
The North East club will be desperate for something here after losing each of their previous four matches in all competitions, though they were very unlucky against Manchester City last time out, as they took the game to the title favourites and had them on the ropes. The goal they deserved for their efforts was wrongly chalked off, so they could use their sense of injustice as inspiration at the Boleyn Ground.
If Sam Allardyce does not deem Carroll fit enough to start, he could select Carlton Cole, who has signed a new 18-month contract. James Tomkins and Kevin Nolan are both suspended, and Winston Reid is still injured among others.
Newcastle right-back Mathieu Debuchy completes a three match ban, so Mapou Yanga Mbiwa will continue to deputise. Captain Fabricio Coloccini is still out with a knee injury.
