Relegation threatened West Ham United take on Swansea City on what is a critical home game and one of the Premier League’s two early kick-offs on Saturday.
Sam Allardyce decided to try and frustrate Chelsea on Wednesday, and his team managed that with dogged defending and some fine goalkeeping from Adrian. That was an excellent result, but this is the kind of game the Hammers must look to win if they are to avoid slipping out of the Premier League come May. However, it requires them to improve on a dismal home record which reads just two wins in 11 outings.
Swansea did just that on Tuesday, winning at home for only the third time this season against Fulham, with two deflected second half goals proving to be enough to give them a valuable bit of breathing space after what has been a tough period for Michael Laudrup’s team. They currently have a five point cushion over the relegation zone, but defeat here will plunge them back into trouble.
Marco Borriello and Abdul Razak could make their West Ham debuts. Winston Reid is still out, and Joey O’Brien has been ruled out for several months after dislocating his shoulder.
This game comes too soon for Swansea forward Miguel Michu and midfielder Jose Canas, while goalkeeper Michel Vorm is unlikely to be risked for at least another week following his recovery from knee surgery.
