Hazard can match Messi and Ronaldo, believes Chelsea boss Mourinho

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has claimed that Eden Hazard can go on to be as good as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, reports the Daily Telegraph.

Mourinho has declared himself amazed at the level of improvement shown by Hazard over the course of this season, with the Belgian’s outstanding performances convincing the manager to allow Juan Mata to leave Stamford Bridge.

Hazard joined Chelsea at the beginning of last season and showed some flashes of quality, but this season he has often been singled out for praise by Mourinho, who has selected him in 30 games in all competitions this season, during which he has scored 11 goals.

And Mourinho thinks that if Hazard keeps working hard on improving his game, he could be able to compete with Messi and Ronaldo, who are widely acknowledged as the world’s two best players. He said: “If he [Hazard] wants the Ballon d’Or, he must build the entourage politically for that.

“It’s a different story if he wants to be a great, great player and arrive where Cristiano and Messi arrive. He has the space to go – he’s 23, and Cristiano is 28 or 29, Messi 26 or 27. Still young players, but four or five years older than Eden. So he has space for evolution. I think there’s a great ambition for him.”
