Joel Campbell is hoping his continuing success on loan at Greek side Olympiakos will soon earn him a place in Arsenal’s squad next season, reports the Daily
The Arsenal loanee scored a superb solo effort on 55 minutes in Tuesdays Champions League win over Manchester United, curling a delicate finish low into the bottom corner to put the Greek side in the driving seat of the last 16 tie.
Costa Rican forward Campbell put in an impressive appearance against a strong United side – including the likes of fit again Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney, and almost had an assist to his name also when team mate Michael Olaitan shot narrowly wide.
After the match Campbell told reporters: “I am still hopeful of playing for Arsenal but I have not been given the chance yet. I hope to keep working at Olympiakos.
“I am making sure that I take this opportunity. There are many things I can improve on though, I am 21 and I have to keep working.
“Thank God I scored a goal and celebrated it with my father, girlfriend and cousins.”
Campbell joined Arsenal in August of 2011 and has had loan spells at FC Lorient and Real Betis before joining Olympiakos on loan this season, where he has scored eight goals in 28 appearances, where he hopes an impact in Europe will help his Arsenal chances.
